The Silk Plant Story

This is my best friend, Sue. The gorgeous little girl is her grand daughter, Emma, and that's Gary on the left of me in my Maui hat, and Desi on the right.
Now - about that silk plant........

I mentioned before our trip to Maui a few years back. In the house that we rented, were beautiful orchids - I mean,it's Hawaii, they practicaly grow wild. Gary & Sue got into a discussion about the plants, and how to best take care of them. It must be said, that Sue's green thumb is actually a deep, dark, dismal black thumb. She buys plants to have on her patio a few days before we arrive so they don't have time to die. In her defense, she does live in Palm Springs, where current temperatures have been in the low 100's - but seriously - anything over 90, and it's all the hinges of Hades hot.
Moving on - Gary told Sue that he was having no luck getting the orchids to bloom after they lost their original flowers, and we had ton's of them in our house here in Tahoe. So Sue told him about her orchid that was gorgeous, and had been blooming for almost two years.
HOLY COW - say's Gary - What do you feed it? How much do you water it? - he asks Sue.
Sue - basking in the knowledge that she has outdone her friend for the first time in this area, tells him - Don't over water, just a quarter of a cup, once a week.
Well! This is what I'll do when I get home, says my husband.
So we go home, back to the freezing Winter that is Fall in the Sierra's.

Not two day's later, I get a call from Sue, who is laughing so hard, she can hardly speak...yep, you guessed it.

She'd been watering a silk orchid for two years.

The fact that she would call and tell me this, roaring with laughter at her own mistake, is what makes her my best friend. Anyone who can call themselves out on such a silly thing, has got a wonderful sense of humor and of the ridiculous things that people do, but seldom admit to.

New Furniture

Ok - the pictures are VERY blurry. For whatever reason, my wonderful little camera is giving me fits. But I knew if I didn't post something - and soon! - I was going to get my head handed to me. If you squint, it sharpens up the picture a bit...

We have a tropical theme going on, warm colors on the walls and ton's of plants - Gary has the green thumb, not me. I can kill silk plants - which is another story about my friend Sue.
The far end of the couch has a little chaise on it for those nice relaxing days - unfortunately, today will be spent watching it snow from that cute little seat. Yup - nice little Spring storm. I am SO not happy about that!

This is Gary - the love & light of my life. When I told him I'd created this blog, he said - "Hey! Put that picture from Maui up- the surfing one that you like." So here it is. We'd gone back after our honeymoon ( LOTS more pictures from that later!) with my best friend sue, my sister in law - who is also one of my best friends - and our friend Rob. ROb had never been to Hawaii, so Gary was his 'Kahuna' for the trip - Rob caught on very fast!!!
Okay - After a tiny bit of prodding from my good friend Sadie, I finally started this up. And before you say it, Boss - I know. I don't have the pictures loaded. But I promise I will before the next couple of days.
One of the most important reasons I did this, is to keep in touch with Sadie, as well as other friends and family without sending out ten million emails at a time - that's me, always making my life easier! Since I have a rather extended family - five brothers & sisters, not to mention a multitude of nieces, nephews & a few grands, a son & daughter-in-law, etc it seemed the best way to go at it.
As for the existing picture on this, it was taken at the City of Refuge in Kona, Hawaii. And for those of you that know me, I'm the one on the right!!! I know, the title of this bad boy is MAUI. Trust me, you'll get tired of pictures from there very soon!
